Coach Bray’s Walk/Run and Founders’ Day

Coach Bray’s Walk/Run and Founder’s Day will be on Oct. 16, 2010 starting at 7:30 am. Everyone is encouraged to walk. Please ask for a form if you’ve not received one. The sponsorship is $25 and you get a cool t-shirt. All proceeds go to Coach Bray who is battling with breast cancer.
Founder’s Day will start immediately after the walk/run. There will be bbq, games, and a concert. Everyone is invited to celebrate our new building.

First Meeting of the Year

The first meeting of the year will be on Tues., Sept. 7, 2010 in Mr. Terrell’s room. We will be discussing Coach Bray’s Walk/Run and Founder’s Day. Everyone’s welcome.

Summer Meeting Scheduled

We are planning a summer meeting on Wednesday, July 28th at The EE. We’ll be working on this year’s agenda and starting to set up committees. Pass it on!

Last Meeting of the Year

We held our last meeting of the year last night. We discussed several plans for next year including game nights, a possible 5K run, what committees we would like to see established and the possibility of only holding quarterly meetings instead of monthly next year. We had a really good turn out and would like to say thanks to everyone who attended. The new Board has been elected and is as follows:

President – Ruth Gold
Vice President – Cindi Schmoldt
Secretary – Stacy Bilyeu
Treasurer – Tina Clark

We will be holding at least one meeting over the summer to get a head start on next year. If you are interested in attending please email me at cindi@utu1.com or spokanemspie@live.com or give me a yell at 417-225-8609 so I can make sure you get notification of the when and where!

Big Smith/Mark Chapman Band Concert

Just a quick reminder, the Big Smith/Mark Chapman Band concert is this Saturday, April 24th at the Spokane High School. Proceeds will benefit the Spokane Middle School IT Department. Gates open at 6pm and tickets are $15. We will start with some quick announcements and crowning of the Spirit Week King and Queen around 6:45pm and then Big Smith will take the stage at 7:00. We anticipate an intermission from 8:00 to 8:30 while the bands switch places and hope to have The Mark Chapman Band start playing around 8:30.

Big Smith and The Mark Chapman Band

We will be holding the concert at the Spokane High School on April 24, 2010. Gates open at 6:00pm and Big Smith will begin playing at 7:00pm. We anticipate that The Mark Chapman Band will begin their set at 8:30pm and play until around 10:00pm. Tickets are $15 at the door.

The school is located at 1123 Spokane Road, Spokane MO, 65754.

September 1, 2009 Meeting Update

We had our first official meeting of the school year on Tuesday, September 1, 2009! There were approximately 15 attendees, which was a great turnout for the first meeting. We hope to see you all again next month and feel free to bring a friend!

This is just a quick overview of the meeting. Official minutes will be posted after they have been approved at next month’s meeting.

Stacey started the meeting by reading the minutes from the July 14th meeting and Ruth gave the Treasurer’s report provided by Kathy who was unable to attend.

Mrs. Rowe gave a technology presentation on the CPS system and the MOBI boards.

There were no grant requests pending so we then moved on to the New Business.

1. Discussion on the success of Open House and the fact that we now have approximately 30 people who have filled out volunteer sheets. YAY!

2. Discussion on the Mr. Zs Fundraiser concerning student prizes, volunteers for the September 3rd kick-off assembly, volunteer needs for the October 13th delivery and how we would handle tracking the family plans for those with students in both the Elementary and Middle Schools. Ruth is chairing this Committee.

As additional info. the assembly was a great success this morning. According to at least one student…WE ROCK… Probably because we got them out of class for a while, but hey, we’ll take it. Right?

3. Discussion on joining PTO and purchasing insurance. It was decided we would join PTO and purchase the basic liability insurance and Kathy will take care of the paperwork for us.

4. Discussion on Spirit Shop which is scheduled to begin September 11th and continue each Friday throughout the school year from 7:30 to 8:00am. Order forms for pre-ordering will be available each week also. Please remember that students need to wear school colors (showing their school spirit) in order to shop! Kathy is chairing this Committee.

5. Discussion on Game Night. The first Game Night is scheduled for Monday, October 12, from 3:30 to 5:30pm. It was decided that there will be pizza available for purchase ($1.50 per slice) and snacks will be available for purchase through the Spirit Shop which will be open during the event. Cost for attending will be $2.00 per person. Cindi is chairing this Committee.

6. Discussion on Slice of PIE which will be a staff appreciation Committee. Information sheets are to be filled out by all school staff so that we can recognize birthdays and other special occasions throughout the year. Ruth is currently working on this, but if anyone would like to take over or help with this Committee, please let us know!

7. Discussion on holding a free throw contest during half-time at both the girls’ and boys’ home basketball games. Entry fee will be $1.00 and tickets will be sold the night of the game. The profits will be divided equally between PIE and the winner of the contest. The first home games are September 17 (boys) and 18 (girls). Mimzie will be in charge of the boys’ games and Toni will be in charge of the girls’ games.

8. Discussion on purchasing a new vending machine for the Common’s Area was tabled until more information on cost and cafeteria rules is available.

9. Discussion on whether background checks would need to be required of volunteers was tabled due to questions about insurance requirements.

Open House was a success!!

Thanks to Kathy for all the cool Spirit Shop signs! It looks like she got several volunteers to help her out, but there were still some open slots, so anybody who’s interested, please let her know!

We had several more volunteer sheets filled out. YAY!!!

We also had several people sign up to help plan and/or staff Game Night! Thanks everybody! We will be discussing and hopefully setting a date for the first game night at next Tuesday’s meeting, so please stop by! If not, I’ll be contacting you soon!!

We passed out contact information to all the teachers and already have several who say they’ll be attending meetings, have suggestions or requests, etc. They all seemed very excited and hopeful for our success this year!

Open House and Meeting Reminder

Just a reminder that Open House is Tuesday, August 25th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. PIE will have a table set up to answer questions and “meet and greet.” We will have information on upcoming events and meetings as well as contact information to distribute.

Our first meeting of the school year is coming up on Tuesday, September 1st at 5:30pm in the Library. Hope to see you all there!
